Hello, I’m Hub Blanchette from Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada. My journey into photography began in my 50s after a vacation in Mexico, where I was captivated by the beauty of humpback whales but lacked the equipment to capture their magnificence. Upon returning home, I dedicated myself to learning the art of photography, studying under some of the world’s top photographers and investing in the necessary gear to capture stunning images in any situation. People often ask about my photography style. I believe a photographer’s style is ever-evolving, shaped by continuous learning and new techniques. As I gain experience and insight, my perspective on scenes and objects becomes more detailed and nuanced. My passion lies in creating images that evoke memories or remind you of places you once called home. My goal is to capture each scene in its best light, producing photographs that you would be proud to display in your home or office. I’ve curated some of my finest images, available as prints that can be framed and displayed to bring those memories to life. I will continue to expand my gallery as new opportunities arise. ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: TURF AND CREEL HOUSE SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS SCOTLAND UK
The Turf and Creel House, a detailed historical reconstruction located at the Glencoe Visitor Centre in the Scottish Highlands. ????? Construction and History * A Recreated Past: Completed in 2021 by the National Trust for Scotland, this structure is a faithful replica of a late 17th-century Highland dwelling. * Authentic Footprint: The design is based on archaeological excavations of the former township of Achtriachtan, located just east of the visitor centre. * Traditional Materials: It was built using ancient techniques, including a timber cruck frame, interior walls of creel (woven wattle), and exterior walls made of turf. * The Roof: The roof is covered in a layer of birch cabers and turf, finished with a top layer of heather thatch. Historically, smoke from the indoor peat fire would seep through the thatch to help keep it watertight and insect-free. ????? Significance of the Site * The Massacre of 1692: The house provides a window into the daily lives of the MacDonald clan at the time of the infamous Glencoe Massacre. * Gaelic Culture: The site aims to immerse visitors in the "lost way of life" of a bustling 17th-century township, complete with a soundscape featuring Gaelic voices, livestock, and the sounds of daily toil.
