My journey into photography began in my 50s after a vacation in Mexico, where I was captivated by the beauty of humpback whales but lacked the equipment to capture their magnificence. Upon returning home, I dedicated myself to learning the art of photography, studying under some of the world’s top photographers and investing in the necessary gear to capture stunning images in any situation. People often ask about my photography style. I believe a photographer’s style is ever-evolving, shaped by continuous learning and new techniques. As I gain experience and insight, my perspective on scenes and objects becomes more detailed and nuanced. My passion lies in creating images that evoke memories or remind you of places you once called home. My goal is to capture each scene in its best light, producing photographs that you would be proud to display in your home or office. The staircase in your photo is the Lion and Unicorn Staircase, one of the most beloved architectural features of the University of Glasgow's main campus at Gilmorehill. While the buildings in this area look ancient, this staircase is actually a "time traveler" from the 17th century. ????? The Great Migration This staircase was originally part of the Old College located on High Street in the city center. When the University moved to its current West End location in 1870, they couldn't bear to leave this piece of history behind. It was dismantled stone by stone and rebuilt here as a physical link between the old university and the new. ???? The Lion and the Unicorn The stairs are named for the two stone figures perched on the balustrades at the bottom: * The Lion: Represents England. * The Unicorn: Represents Scotland. * The Significance: Together, they represent the Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom, symbolizing the union. ? Fun Facts for Visitors * Harry Potter Vibes: Much like Victoria Street in your first photo, this staircase and the surrounding Cloisters (the vaulted arches nearby) are often cited by fans as looking exactly like Hogwarts. * The "Museum" Sign: The blue sign you see in your photo points toward the Hunterian Museum, the oldest museum in Scotland, which houses everything from Roman artifacts to medical curiosities. * Tradition: It is a very popular spot for graduation photos, though some superstitious students avoid walking up them until they’ve officially passed their exams!
