My journey into photography began in my 50s after a vacation in Mexico, where I was captivated by the beauty of humpback whales but lacked the equipment to capture their magnificence. Upon returning home, I dedicated myself to learning the art of photography, studying under some of the world’s top photographers and investing in the necessary gear to capture stunning images in any situation. People often ask about my photography style. I believe a photographer’s style is ever-evolving, shaped by continuous learning and new techniques. As I gain experience and insight, my perspective on scenes and objects becomes more detailed and nuanced. My passion lies in creating images that evoke memories or remind you of places you once called home. My goal is to capture each scene in its best light, producing photographs that you would be proud to display in your home or office. I’ve curated some of my finest images, available as prints that can be framed and displayed to bring those memories to life. I will continue to expand my gallery as new opportunities arise. ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: KILMORE GRAVEYARD AND CHURCH DRUMNADROCHIT IN THE SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS
This atmospheric image features the Kilmore Graveyard and the ruins of the Old Kilmore Church near Drumnadrochit in the Scottish Highlands. History & Location * The Setting: This historic site sits just a short distance from the famous Urquhart Castle on the banks of Loch Ness. * The Church: The building in the background is the Old Kilmore Parish Church, which was built in 1837 to replace an even older medieval structure on the same site. * Architecture: It is a classic example of a Highland parish church, featuring a simple rectangular plan with Gothic-style pointed-arch windows and a small birdcage bellcote on the roof. The Graveyard * Ancient Origins: While the current church building dates to the 19th century, the burial ground itself is much older, with some records suggesting the site has been used for Christian worship and burial since the medieval period. * Clan Connections: The cemetery is the resting place for many members of local Highland families, most notably the Clan Grant, who held significant power in the Glen Urquhart area for centuries. * Stone Styles: The yard contains a mix of weathered upright headstones, flat "table" tombs, and older, uninscribed fieldstones that mark the graves of poorer residents from past centuries. Atmosphere & Legend * Highland Vibe: The low-angle photography and the dramatic, moody sky emphasize the "Gothic" beauty common to many Highland burial sites, where moss-covered stone meets the rugged natural landscape. * Local Folklore: Like many sites near Loch Ness, the area is steeped in local legends, ranging from tales of the Jacobite risings to traditional Highland ghost stories associated with the ancient yew trees and silent monuments.
